Government would not make any recruitment of staff into its workforce in 2023, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has announced. The decision by government to halt the employment of personnel in the country’s civil and public service from January 2023, the minister said, is geared towards expenditure rationalisation. South Africa’s prison service has said it will challenge a court decision that sent former president Jacob Zuma back to jail. “Having carefully studied the judgement, Correctional Services is convinced that another court may arrive at a different conclusion,” the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) said in a statement. The Supreme Court of Appeal had on Monday ordered Mr Zuma to return to prison after upholding an earlier ruling that his medical parole had been unlawful. Government has reduced the Electronic Transfer Levy rate, popularly referred to as E-Levy, from 1.5% to 1%. However, the daily transaction threshold of ¢100 has also been removed. The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who announced this in Parliament on Thursday, said this will allow more Ghanaians to use the service. The controversial Electronic Transfer Levy Act, 2022 (Act 1075) was passed in March 2022 after months of public protestations and resistance from the Minority members of parliament. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says the new date for the release of 2022 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination for school candidates is November 30, 2022. A statement issued and signed by Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Head, Public Affairs, WAEC, in Accra, cautioned candidates to be on the alert for websites that might announce the release of fake results. Some 256 teachers have sued the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Attorney General over their mass failure in the December 2021 promotional examinations. The teachers, who are on the Assistant Director Grade II position, sat for the Assistant Director Grade I promotion examination at the Ada Training College Centre.
