John Mahama has expressed optimism that he will win the December 7 elections in spite of the findings of opinion polls being churned out lately by research organisations. He said Ghanaians are worse off under the present administration and that gives him the confidence that he will win the elections. “I am sure that all of us have lived in this country for the past four years and we have seen the NPP government and we can compare to the NDC government. An opinion poll was carried and more than 60 per cent of Ghanaians say that they are worse…
A former Northern Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bugri Naabu has predicted a 75 per cent victory margin for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the December 7 elections. This prediction, according to him, is based on the remarkable performance of Mr Akufo-Addo with regards to the kind of transformational policies and programmes including the free senior high school (SHS) programme he has introduced in his first term in office. He further indicated that the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama will poll 25 per cent in the elections. “President Akufo-Addo will…
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) was implementing a progressively free senior high school (SHS) in Ghana before the party left office in 2016, John Dumelo, the Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has said. His comment comes on the heels of the raging debate between President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Mahama, his party’s presidential candidate, over who introduced the Free SHS programme to Ghanaians. Mr Mahama had said: “We started the programme and the NPP came and continued it. “Unfortunately, the implementation has been very poor, and so it ended us in double track. I assure you my…
Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said millions of Ghanaians who have been impacted by the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme know that it was President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s initiative. His comments follow claims by the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, that he started the Free SHS programme. “We started the programme and the NPP came and continued it,” the former president said. “Unfortunately, the implementation has been very poor, and so it ended us in double track. I assure you my country men, that within one year, I…
Ghana’s financial sector is in crisis. A crisis occasioned by the collapse of over 300 financial institutions; and which has affected every division of the financial sector. Universal banks, savings and loans companies, microfinance companies, capital market institutions, and insurance companies have been impacted. While majority of the collapsed institutions were licensed and regulated, a few were unlicensed and ought not to have been in operation. The fact that the unlicensed institutions were allowed a free rein to operate until their eventual collapse, speaks volumes about the existing regulatory regime and the safety of financial consumers. Experts have identified the…
Legon Cities forward Asamoah Gyan has blamed the club’s poor start to the Ghana Premier League (GPL) season on the attitude of the players. The Royals are without a win after two games in the topflight league. This has led to the dismissal of their head coach Goran Barjaktarevic with Bashiru Hayford coming in to replace him. Gyan, however, thinks the players’ approach to the games is not the best and must change. “For me, I think it is something about our attitude. We haven’t given enough and I think and we have had couple of meetings and everybody has…
Parliamentary Candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) for the Ayawaso Central Constituency Gifty Hammond has lamented the lack of support from the party to women within the rank and file. According to her, the LPG promised a lot of support for them but with what they received, it is not enough. “My major challenge is the support women in politics receive, we do not get much attention, much support and the backup we need to achieve,” she said on the Women’s Take hosted by Natalie Fort on 3FM. “We were promised support and we got posters and flyers…
