A US-based Ghanaian professor, Kwaku Asare, has described the description of Akyems as “Sakawa Boys” by former President John Mahama as unacceptable and unbecoming. Prof Asare has, therefore, asked the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to withdraw those comments and apologize accordingly. Mr Mahama is reported to have shared an article written by Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo on his Facebook page, adding to the article the descriptions ‘Akyem Sakawa Boys’ and ‘Grandpa’. The former president, in an interview on Saturday, defended the post. “He [President Akufo-Addo] was an opposition leader who called Presidents before him…

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Dr Lord Mensah, has questioned the decision of Ghanaian authorities to register Agyapa Royalties Limited in Jersey, UK. He said by registering it in that part of the world, the investment has been moved far away from the shareholders in Ghana. The government through a Deputy Minister of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, said incorporating Agyapa in Jersey makes the deal tax-efficient and will also provide shareholders the best out of the transaction. “We used it because it was a tax-efficient avenue to use. If we had decided to use…

He said on the show that “the issue of transparency, the valuation, tax haven and all of those little things that that people need to know, I pray that we have done justice.” Asked whether the government can publish a 30-year cash…

MTN Ghana has said it has it filed papers on Friday, September 4 at the Supreme Court, seeking to review the High Court’s recent decision regarding the declaration of telecommunications company as a Significant Market Power (SMP). This step was taken after a careful review of the Court’s judgment. On September 1, 2020 the High Court of Justice (Commercial Division) dismissed the company’s application for a judicial review of the declaration by the National Communications Authority (NCA) of MTN Ghana as an SMP. MTN Ghana respects the decision of the Court, however in our opinion the judgement did not address…
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the promise made by former president John Dramani Mahama to legalise commercial motorcycle transportation, popularly known as Okada, in Ghana smacks of inconsistency on his part. He said Mr Mahama and the late former president John Evans Atta Mills were the same people who enacted laws to ban Okada in the country, therefore, turning around this time to promise to legalise it indicates that he lacks consistency. The NDC flagbearer in the 2020 elections, has promised to legalise Okada if elected to be president again because in his view it is creating…

He told Abena Tabi on The Key Points on TV3 Saturday, September 5 that Ghana will have to be cautious in order not to lose revenue from the deal. The Agyapa deal has been valued at $1 billion. According to government communications, the valuation was only to ‘spice’ up the deal to attract investors on the stock market. But Dr Lord Mensah said “we…
