The flagbearer of Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akaploo, has said former President John Mahama lacks quality hence unfit to be president again in the country. He noted that Mr Mahama is no match for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of this year’s polls. In an interview with Mikki Osei Berko on yet-to-be-aired ‘Wow’ show on TV3, Mr. Akpaloo said although he believes in bringing all on board, he will reject Mr Mahama any time. “…I want quality in my term of government so I cannot employ Mahama. “If there is a need to but will maybe employ…
Executive Director of the African Education Watch Kofi Asare has disclosed that the suspension of schools in Ghana following the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in most students marrying and others also getting pregnant. He said a research undertaken by his outfit indicates that most of the students are likely not to return to school if schools reopen in January because they will be married or pregnant. Mr Asare was speaking in connection with the decision by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to move the next academic year for nursery, kindergarten, primary and junior high schools (JHS) to January 202, after…
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has noted that most low-income developing countries (LIDCs) cannot sustain strict containment measures for long as large segments of the population live at near subsistence levels. The IMF said large informal sectors, weak institutional capacity, and incomplete registries of the poor make it difficult to reach the needy. Further, governments have only limited fiscal resources to support them. Recent surveys conducted across 20 African countries reveal that more than 70 percent of respondents risk running out of food during a lockdown that lasts more than two weeks. Faced…
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has called on football administrators to make football an attractive brand. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been unable to complete a league season in recent history following series of ethical cases hanging on the necks of some of the top individuals belonging to the association. The famous Anas exposé in June 2018 led to the formation of the FIFA and Government of Ghana’s Normalization Committee and the recent Covid-19 pandemic led to the suspension of the 2019/2020 season on March 15, 2020 and later invalidated by the GFA. Mr Asiamah,…

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, says her ministry is teaming up with the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to deal with the witches menace in the country. She added that the ministry is working with the NGOs to resolve cases of attempted lynching of women allegedly believed to be witches. “The NGOs are filling the gap because the ministry can’t be everywhere,” she indicated. “The NGOs are part of the ministry but because of the benefits for going out there to solicit for funds, they want to act as if they are on their own,” she…
The Minority in Parliament has said members’ objection to the Agyapa Royalties agreement should not be misconstrued to mean they are against foreign investors. Leader Haruna Iddrisu said at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, September 1 that while in power, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ensured that Ghana became the investment destination for foreigners, hence they are not against such investment from expatriates. He, however, stated that they only expected the current government to respect the laws of the land with respect to the deal. “I have played a role of Minister for Trade for the Republic and…
Former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute Gabby Asare Otcthere-Darko has noted that nine years ago, the Mills-Mahama administration sought to introduce a deal in the form of the current Agyapa Royalties agreement to monetize Ghana’s gold royalties. He noted that unlike the current agreement, which went to Parliament for deliberations, the one that was drafted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not have a parliamentary support and also shrouded in secrecy. He, therefore, wondered why despite the Akufo-Addo government being transparent on the deal and taking it to Parliament will receive flak from critics who believe the agreement…
