Two young illegal miners are reported to have died and three others injured in a mining pit at the Mwabok mining area in Gbane in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. The event occurred on August 28 after a mine blast the previous day at 3:30pm. The deceased, Baanab Kodzo and Naambey Nyang, went underground for mining activities but suffocated due to an intense heat in the pit resulting from the blast, police report has said. Environmental health workers of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) who conduct burial of Covid-19 bodies say they would not continue with the exercise unless they are provided security. This follows a brutal assault on them at the Ridge Hospital in Accra on Thursday, by agitated relatives of one of the deceased who were contesting the cause of death of their kinsman.
