The Electoral Commission on Tuesday, June 30 commenced a nationwide exercise to register eligible Ghanaians for the compilation of a new voters’ register for the conduct of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections. The exercise started in 6,788 clusters across the country, with each cluster having 5 registration centres. Delays, disregard for covid-19 protocols and few scuffles characterised the first day of the exercise that is expected to continue until August 6. Adolescent and youth advocacy group, Curious Minds, with sponsorship from UNESCO has commenced a two-week training programme for youth volunteers in a bid to educate them on teenage pregnancy and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The training, dubbed “Our rights, Our lives, Our future” saw 30 youth volunteers from across the Central and Upper East regions, specifically Talensi-Nabdam and the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa districts, attending to be educated on the importance of adolescent reproductive health. The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has expressed worry about the continuous increase in community spread of of the deadly novel coronavirus cases in Ghana. In a statement issued Monday, the Association recommended strictly enforcement of all Covid-19 preventive measures by the law enforcement agencies including the Courts. Ghana’s Covid-19 case count currently stands at 17, 741 of which 390 were recorded on Monday, June 29. National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons has asked political actors in the country not to allow their diversity in opinion, particularly in this election year, derail Ghana’s peace and security.
