A three-month-old baby has died of the novel coronavirus in the Northern Region, health authorities have announced. The infant was a week ago transferred from the Savelugu Hospital to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where he died of the virus. The baby was said to be having difficulty in breathing. A total of 97 health workers in the Ashanti Region have contracted the deadly novel coronavirus in line of duty, the Regional Health Directorate has revealed. One of them, a Medical Director of the Kwadaso SDA Hospital has died while 14 have since recovered. Health workers affected include 18 doctors and 47 nurses, as well as administrators and cleaners. The fast-tracked ceremony comes after his predecessor Pierre Nkurunziza died suddenly last week. Mr Ndayishimiye is a former rebel leader, like Mr Nkurunziza. The exercise started from the Military Central Command headquarters at Sofoline through the Old Baracks at Bantama to the 4 Infantry Battalion, also at the Sofoline area in Kumasi. Ghana has recorded its biggest single-day jump in coronavirus deaths and new infections two weeks after government eased the country’s covid-19 restrictions. The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says it has paid a total of 598, 940, 611.70 to NHIS service providers as claims payments from the beginning of this year to date. The amount, it said, includes withholding taxes.
