The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says the 198 new coronavirus cases announced Saturday are not new infections. It explained that the record 198 new cases, which have seen the country’s case count jump from 641 to 834, are from a backlog of samples currently at the various laboratory testing centres. “The general public is however advised that this does not represent new infections that are occurring. A sixth person has died from the novel coronavirus in Ghana as 198 new cases of the deadly virus ballooned the country’s count to 834 cases Saturday afternoon. Zipline, the company in charge of the medical drones project in Ghana, has successfully completed a number of test flights in readiness for the transportation of samples taken from various parts of the country for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) tests by drones. It has emerged that there is no vaccine for the strain of bacteria that has caused an outbreak of meningitis in the Upper West Region. Of the 409 persons who have since February this year contracted the life-threatening disease in the five northern regions, 258 are from the Upper West Region. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff has died after contracting the novel coronavirus, the presidency said on Saturday. Buhari’s office announced in a statement that it “regrets to announce the passage” of Abba Kyari, who acted as gatekeeper to the president of Africa’s most populous nation. “The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment.
