A 20-year-old man who appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl at the Arts Centre in Accra has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment. Emmanuel Teye has since December 2018 had countless number of sex with the victim at the Black Star Square Sea shore in Accra. Charged with defilement, Teye, a student pleaded guilty. The court presided over by Mrs. Christina Cann however deferred Teye’s sentence to Monday. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the coronavirus disease pandemic is “accelerating”, with more than 300,000 cases now confirmed. It took 67 days from the first reported of Covid-19 to reach 100,000 cases, 11 days for the second 100,000, and just four days for the third 100,000. A second person has died from the coronavirus in Ghana, the Ghana Health Service has announced. “Twenty-seven (27) confirmed cases with two (2) deaths have been recorded. All the twenty-five (25) confirmed cases are receiving treatment in isolation,” the Service tweeted on Monday. It was however silent on the details of the latest death, which sources suggest is a Ghanaian. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the general public that it has not registered any Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits (RDTs) for screening and diagnosis of Corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) in Ghana. “The current tests for screening and diagnosis of the Coronavirus in Ghana, approved by the Ministry of Health is the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests,” the FDA said in a statement.
