The National Identification Authority (NIA) has rescinded its decision to carry on with the registration exercise in the Eastern Region following public outcry and a suit filed against the authority. “The Mass Registration Exercise currently underway in the Eastern Region has been suspended effective Saturday, 21st March 2020 pending the final determination of the application for interlocutory injunction,” a statement by the NIA on Friday said. The West African Examination Council has suspended the timetable for the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) until further notice. An internal memo by the Council dated March 20, 2020 from the Office of the Registrar in Accra further stated that “the conduct of WASSCE (SC) 2020 be put on hold until further notice”. This year’s WASSCE was expected to commence on March 30 and end on June 12. Four-year-old girl was killed Thursday evening when a falling tree collapsed a mud house on her and three others. Though the little girl was rushed to Afrikids Hospital in Bolgatanga, she was pronounced dead few minutes after being admitted. The incident which happened during a heavy rainstorm at Kalbeo in the Bolgatanga municipality of the Upper East region left the grandmother of the deceased and the other two occupants injured. A mother whose seven year old son lives with a condition called Brain Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) has expressed her strongest desire that she wish his son could go to school. Brain Arteriovenous Malformation is a tangle of abnormal and poorly formed blood vessels. Brain AVMs are of special concerns because of the damage they cause when they bleed. They are rare and occur in less than one per cent of the general population, according to the Toronto Brain Vascular malformation study group. Health authorities in Ghana have initiated contact tracing in the five newly confirmed novel coronavirus cases recorded in the country Friday morning.
