Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, says it is an insult and unacceptable for the government to pay beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation Programme, only one out of the six months’ salary arrears. 83,000 beneficiaries are owed six months by the government. The affected persons have over the last months held several demonstrations to push government to pay them all outstanding arrears without success. Latest statistics have revealed that six people die each day in Ghana from road traffic accidents, with drink driving, speeding and motor cyclists riding without crash helmet being the topmost contributing factors. A total of 2,803 persons were killed in 12,502 road accidents between January and November 2019. Another 12,760 sustained injuries in accidents involving 20,195 vehicles. A passenger plane has crashed in Kazakhstan, killing at least 15 people. Officials say the aircraft from Bek Air – a Kazakh airline – went down shortly after taking off from Almaty airport on Friday morning local time, smashing into a building. At least 60 injured people, including children, were taken to hospitals. Flight Z92100 was en route from Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, to the capital Nur-Sultan.
