Immediate past Ghana High Commissioner to Nigeria Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed has officially been sworn in as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The ceremony took place on the floor of Parliament Tuesday, March 10, marking his formal return to the legislative house.
The swearing-in follows a decisive victory in the recent by-election, which was occasioned by the passing of Mahama Naser Toure on Sunday, January 4.
Baba Jamal, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emerged victorious after a hard-fought campaign focused on youth empowerment and urban renewal.
According to official results from the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) the former Deputy Minister secured a significant majority, comfortably defeating his closest rival, Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This will not be Baba Jamal’s first time in Parliament.
Having previously served as the MP for Akwatia and held various ministerial roles, he brings a wealth of experience back to the NDC caucus.
During his inaugural address after taking the oath of office, Jamal expressed his commitment to continuing the legacy of his predecessor while tackling the unique challenges facing the residents of Nima and its environs.
“I am here to serve the people of Ayawaso East with humility and dedication. My focus will be on education, drainage issues, and ensuring our youth have access to the digital economy,” Jamal stated to the press following the session.
Welcoming the new member, the Speaker of Parliament urged him to prioritize the national interest and contribute meaningfully to the legislative business of the House.
