Officers of the Border Patrols Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Chache border in the Bole District of the Savannah region have intercepted 93 bags of cashew seeds being smuggled into Ghana from neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire.
The goods were onboard a Kia Rhino truck intercepted at one of the unapproved routes at the Chache border.
According to the Chache border patrols Commander, DSI Stephen Adigbo, the arrest was made on Monday May, 4, 2020 around 10:15 am.
“Even though the officers on a motorbike developed a flat tyre, they managed to trace and intercept the vehicle carrying the cashew seeds.”
He said, the vehicle was escorted to the Bole District Command of the Ghana Immigration Service where the driver Mahama Saaka was interrogated.
“The driver admitted the goods were cart across the Black Volta from Côte d’Ivoire and that on Sunday May 3, 2020.”
DSI Adigbo added that one Alhaji Fuseini came to the office to claim ownership.
The vehicle and the goods have since been handed over to the GRA of Customs Division in the Bole District.
It would be recalled that on 8th April, 2020, four Kia Rhino loaded with 150 bags of Cashew at Tanglayiri and Vouvou unapproved routes that leads to Côte d’Ivoire were intercepted by the Bole District command of GIS.
The vehicles and the goods were handed over to GRA of Customs Division.
