One hundred and twenty-one new coronavirus cases have seen Ghana’s tally shot up to 1,671.
The number of recoveries has also moved up from the previous 155 to 188, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye announced Tuesday.
Although five new deaths have been recorded, he said they have not been captured in their system because they are now validating to establish whether they were as a result of the covid-19.
The Greater Accra Region still leads with 1,433 cases followed by the Ashanti Region with 84 cases and Eastern Region with 57 cases.
The Upper East Region has 18 cases, Oti and Central regions with 17 cases each, Northern Region with 13 cases, Volta with 11 cases, Western Region with nine cases and the Upper West Region with eight cases.
The North East region has only two cases while the Western North region has just one case.
The Ahafo, Bono, Bono East and Savannah regions are the only areas in the country that have not recorded any case since the first two cases were recorded in Ghana on March 12, 2020
Of the 1,671 cases, 563 have come from general surveillance while 105 were from those quarantined in Accra and 10 from those quarantine in Tamale with the remaining 1,113 being detected from enhanced tracing.
Dr Kuma-Aboagye 1,461 of the covid-19 patients are not showing symptoms and are responding to treatment while six others have been classified as moderately and critically ill.
He said aside the recoveries, “there are more people waiting for their second test to be discharged”.
