Advocacy for Development, a group comprising 8 students undertaking MSc. Development Management at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) on Sunday, October 18, 2020 handed over fully built toilet facilities and sinks to 3 households in Danfa, a community which is part of  the La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking to (media house) the group leader, Miss Esther Asieduwaa Agyemang explained that the project, which forms part of the IDL’s curriculum for final year students under what is known as the Social Entrepreneurial and Advocacy Programme, is aimed at improving the sanitation challenges in the Danfa community.

It is the hope of the final year students that the handed over facilities, will be the key that initiates the discussion on constructing more sanitary facilities for the community. This belief was seconded by the Assemblyman for the area, Hon. Charles Tsuishitoo Kotei who helped the group identify the three (3) households that needed the facilities the most.

Beneficiary households were provided with a complete water closet set, a wash hand sink, and an underground bio-digester septic tank.

One of the beneficiaries, Madam Amidu Fariatu who is about 95 years old, thanked the students for providing her with such a beautiful facility. Adding that her old toilet was a death trap and was wondering how she would have built a new one for the house. Other beneficiaries were Regina Akua Dzanee and Adjei Ablorh.

The Assembly Man, Hon. Kotei also thanked the group for coming to their community out of so many communities in the Municipality. A representative of the chief, Mr. Daniel Osekre said “this is the first of its kind in this community” and was very happy for that intervention to support those households with the facilities.

The student group, as part of its SEAP project, which is aimed at environmental sustainability, also planted 8 avenue trees at the forecourt of the St. Augustus School Complex, Danfa.
