Doubt raised over GH¢400k contributors’ list for Mahama 2020

Stephen Amoah does not trust the list being circulated on social media

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Amoah, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (Masloc), says he has deep doubts over the list being spread of contributors for former president John Mahama’s filing fee.

After the National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced the filing fees for the January 19, 2019 presidential primary, there has been mixed reaction – especially from aspirants.

Those backing the decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) have largely been followers of Mr Mahama, who is touring the country in fervent campaign.

Some appointees of his government of 2012–2016 have come together to raise funds for his nomination and filing fees.

About 420 supporters have resolved to dedicate GH¢1,000 each of their income to get the fees for him.

Dubbed ‘Operation 420 people willing to contribute GH¢1,000 for JM’, the move has so far seen 219 volunteers respond positively.

But speaking on TV3’s New Day on Monday, December 3, Mr Amoah stressed: “I even doubt the list that they are putting out”.

He told host Johnnie Hughes that No. 109, for instance, cannot be said to be part due to his profession as an army officer.

“Because army officers do not do that.

“It is endangering our democracy,” he stated.

He claims all those Mahama appointees are doing so to save face.

“The fact of the matter is that [former] President Mahama has become so unpopular among the hierarchy of the party.”
