The parliamentary candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Salaga South Constituency, Hajia Zuweira Ibrahima presented food items to the Muslim community and the Salaga local prisons in Salaga ahead of Sunday’s Eid-ul-fitr celebration.
The items include 120 bags of rice, 12 boxes of cooking oil, 12 boxes of mackerel and 5 boxes of tasty tom tomatoes.
Presenting the items on behalf of the PC, Hajia Mariam Sinari reminded Muslims to see ‘zakat’ as an important medium to receiving blessings, pointing out that Zakat is mandatory to every Muslim.
“It is mandatory, provided you have the ability and these women have children who look up to them for their livelihood especially in this festive occasion.”
She was optimistic the gesture will go a long way to put food on their tables during the celebration.
Hajia Sinari admonished the beneficiaries to continue to observe the various directives on COVID-19 preventions.
A beneficiary, Amadu Adiza expressed gratitude to the PC for her kind gesture.
Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam which directs Muslims to give to the poor and needy in society.
