The personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who assaulted a journalist with Class Media Group while fighting a fire disaster at Kasoa New Market have been interdicted.
They were interdicted following identification from the viral video and they are set to be under investigation.
This was disclosed by President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, January 8 when he paid a courtesy call on the national broadcaster.
President Mahama appeared on Ghana Television (GTV) and he was asked for an update on the press freedom attack.
“We’ve been in touch with the Ghana Journalists Association on these issues,” he said.
“We have put the in touch with the security services. We need reorientation for many of our security personnel to understand that just as they are doing their job of providing security and safety, journalists are also doing their job of informing the people.
“So they are not antagonistic to each other.”
President Mahama disclosed that the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has taken the matter up and that has led to the interdiction of the suspected officers.
