The staff of the Ghana Highway Authority have threatened to embark on “an industrial action” over attacks they say have been inflicted on their colleagues at the Northern Region office in Tamale.
According to the workers, on three occasions some unknown persons have attacked the Tamale office with the latest occurring last Tuesday.
“We have also been informed of the same group going about preventing contractors from undertaking their assignment,” a press release by the Senior Staff Association of the Authority pointed out.
It demanded: “While we sympathise with the rank and file in Tamale, we are by this press release informing the Minister of Roads and Highways as a matter of urgency to condemn the act, initiate measures to prevent further attacks on our staff members.”
The workers also urged the Northern Regional Security Council to make arrests “to serve as a deterrent to others”.
“This is the only way the safety of our staff can be guaranteed.
“We want to indicate that if this issue is not resolved within a reasonable time, the entire staff of the Ghana Highway Authority will be compelled to embark on an industrial action.”
