Ghana has suspended passport services at all Passport Application Centres (PACs).
The decision takes “immediate effect”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration said in a notice on Thursday.
According to the ministry, the decision is “in keeping with Government’s directives to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19)”.
The ministry’s statement also said all passport applications centres would be closed for at least two weeks.
“Applicants will not be admitted for vetting and capture procedures and also for collection of processed passports.
“All PACs will remain closed for the next two (2) weeks or until such a time that the situation would be sufficiently safe for opening.”
This latest development comes barely three days after the ministry said it was going to accept only application for the issuance of emergency passports.
“Help to protect us all from COVID-19,” the ministry appealed to the general public.
As of Thursday evening, Ghana has recorded 11 confirmed cases of coronavirus with no deaths.
