The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that an approval has been granted by government to issue global streaming icon IShowSpeed a Ghanaian passport.
This follows the American YouTuber’s recent visit to Ghana.
Real named Darren Jason Watkins Jr., Speed was in the country on Monday, January 26 following visits to 18 other African countries in a continent-wide tour, dubbed ‘Speed Does Africa’.
Popular Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya was IShowSpeed’s guide on his visit to the country.
“Wode Maya, following our discussions and subsequent confirmation of the irrefutable ties of IShowSpeed to Ghana,” Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa wrote on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, “I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed.”
He added: “Keep making our great nation Ghana, and our beloved African continent proud.
“Ghana celebrates you both — you remain our worthy ambassadors, and we are ever so delighted to have granted you a diplomatic passport last year.”
IShowSpeed’s visit to Ghana on Monday saw him pay a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Akropong-Akwapim, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, at his palace, and visited the Black Star Square, the Shea Butter Museum, among others.
From Ghana, he travelled to Namibia for the last leg of his African tour.
