New Hearts of Oach coach Kim Grant (R) will report directly to CEO Mark Noonan

Ghana Premier League club Hearts of Oak have appointed former Black Stars player Kim Grant as the new coach of the senior side.

Grant will also assume the role as the Director of Football for the club, taking charge of all technical aspects including the youth teams.

Grant will officially begin work on Saturday, December 1.

The announcement was made by Hearts of Oak’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Noonan, whom Grant will directly report to.

“Kim is the right man at the right time to lead our programme forward,” Mr Noonan said on Thursday.

“First and foremost, he has all the personal qualities we were looking for in a leader: integrity, work ethic, communication skills, attention to detail, and incredibly high standards of professionalism.”

He particularly singled out Grant’s commitment to playing “entertaining attacking football” as what made him ideal for the role.

“Given the pause of the local league, we had the luxury of time to do an extensive search and make this appointment.

“Kim stood out among the many candidates we interviewed, and I call upon all our beloved supporters to give him your full backing as he begins his important work.”

Grant played 14 times for the Black Stars.

He featured for 18 professional clubs across Europe, Africa and Asia, having played under top managers like Roy Hodgson, Sam Allardyce, Roberto di Matteo and Alan Curbishly.

He also served as chief scout for West Bromwich Albion.

His most recent experience comes locally where he was Technical Director for Elmina Sharks FC and Sea Lions FC as well as Head Coach for Elmina Sharks Academy.

“I am humbled at the opportunity to lead this great football club at this critical moment in time,” Grant said.

He assured that his leadership will see the return of the ‘Never Say Die’ spirit, asking all supporters to “fully embrace and support this exciting new chapter”.
