Stanbic bank adopts Hakeem, offers him full educational scholarship

The Development Planning course 1987 year group of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has donated a sum of GH¢3,000 to support the welfare and education of street children including brilliant former street boy Abdul Hakeem Alhassan Aremeyaw, who won an essay competition and represented Ghana abroad.

The story of Hakeem was first told by TV3’s primetime news anchor Alfred Ocansey and has since then gather momentum on other media platforms, drawing the attention of the public to the plight of the brilliant but needy boy and his friends on the streets.

Many gave their word to help get Hakeem off the streets completely, but few actually reached out to help.

Among those who have so far reached out to Hakeem are ace movie and music producer Alhaji Banda and children, Rahim and Aisha, who donated exercise books and some cash to support him.

Stanbic Bank has also offered to adopt and sponsor Hakeem’s education and two of his friends as well as invest ¢50,000 in streetism.

The KNUST alumni group is the latest to donate to this cause.

The products of Development Planning noted: “It is our belief that part of the solution lies in public-private efforts towards addressing many social problems in our dear nation Ghana”.

The donation was presented by Kingsley Tamakloe on behalf of the group.
