The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has suspended all public gatherings and student programmes until further notice.
Officially approved religious, medical or humanitarian programmes are, however, exempted.
This follows a violent clash among some student groups over the weekend.
The clash on Sunday dawn left one student seriously injured.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, February 10, management said investigations are underway to “identify all persons involved and recommend appropriate sanctions in accordance with University regulations and due process”.
“All public gatherings and student programmes are suspended until further notice, except for officially approved religious, medical or humanitarian programmes,” the press release signed by University Relations Officer Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe said.
It further disclosed that the University is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute any students and other persons who disturb the peace on campus.
Management also served notice that names and photographs of students who have been dismissed, rusticated or suspended due to disciplinary actions will continue to be published on all media platforms “to serve as a deterrent to others”.
Management assured students, staff, parents, alumni and, indeed, all stakeholders that the University is firmly committed to safety, security and well being of all members of its community.
“Every necessary measure will be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to maintain peace and order on campus.”
