Asante Kotoko broke a 10-year jinx by qualifying to the group phase of the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors beat Coton Sport Garoua of Cameroon 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday to reach the next phase.
Kotoko had entered the competition after a halt in the Ghana Premier League over the football exposé spearhearded by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Coton Sport qualified into the elite club competition on the continent, CAF Champions League, as Cameroonian champions but dropped to the lower tier after being beaten by Ismaily in the qualifying rounds.
Asante Kotoko put one foot in the Confederation Cup after having gone to Garoua to beat the Cameroonians in their backyard.
At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, goals from Amos Frimpong and Maxwell Baakoh were enough to put them through.
Coton Sport’s Oumarou Sali got a consolation, though, in the 86th minute.
The draw for the group phase will be held on Monday, January 21.
