President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in the Republic of Korea for the start of a high-profile five-day working visit.
The visit is aimed at deepening economic ties and securing new investments for Ghana.
The President’s arrival follows a series of international engagements under his “Accra Reset” initiative, making him the first African leader to visit South Korea since President Lee Jae-myung took office in June 2025.
The visit will be climaxed by a major bilateral summit scheduled for Wednesday.
Both Presidents Lee Jae-myung and Mahama are expected to discuss a broad range of cooperation areas, including trade and investment, defence and climate action.
President Mahama’s schedule reflects a mix of industrial, academic, and diplomatic engagements across the peninsula:
A major highlight of the trip is the President’s visit to the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, the world’s largest shipbuilding complex.
President Mahama will also preside over a ship-naming ceremony, symbolizing Ghana’s growing presence in the international maritime and energy sectors.
“Africa deserves a seat at the table in reshaping the new global order,” President Mahama previously stated at the World Governments Summit.
“This visit to Seoul is about transitioning from aid and dependence to trade, investment, and global partnerships.”
Beyond official government business, President Mahama is also slated to meet with the Ghanaian community in South Korea, including students and business professionals.
These meetings aim to encourage “brain gain” and discuss how Ghanaians abroad can contribute to the national development agenda.
The President is accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including the Minister for Foreign Affairs and key officials from the investment and maritime sectors.
