Former President John Dramani Mahama says he refused to be influenced by some close persons to make promises like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was doing during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
He said he told them that was not how he was brought up – to make promises he cannot fulfill.
Former President made the revelation on Saturday when he addressed a crowd of National Democratic Congress (NDC) faithfuls in Tarkwa in the Western Region.
It was after a health walk dubbed ‘Unity Walk’ in the mining town.
He said promises of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the electioneering campaign period were lies.
The NDC does not lie, he said in local language Twi.
“What we cannot do, we won’t say we will do,” he explained.
Mr Mahama noted that Ghanaians are even getting disappointed in the NPP administration because they are not doing what they said they will do.
He cited the $1 million per constituency promise.
“We told them they cannot do it!”
He said the performance of the NPP has justified the good works of the NDC and hopefully they will regain power in 2020.
