Former President John Dramani Mahama has asked delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and, by extension, the entire membership to ignore lawsuits challenging his eligibility to stand for president.
There have been two lawsuits challenging the former president as a result of having served in the high capacity before.
Stephen Agyemang had dragged Mr Mahama to court, arguing that his re-election bid violates the 1992 Constitution.
A few days later, a former General Secretary of Trobu Constituency’s NDC, Edmund Palmer, also filed a writ to have Mr Mahama stopped “from pursuing his bid to be re-elected as a flagbearer/ presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress in his capacity as a former president of the Republic of Ghana, without the permission of Parliament”.
But addressing delegates in Drobo in the Brong Ahafo Region on Wednesday, Mr Mahama described the suits as “frivolous” and “without foundation”.
He said the lawsuits are an orchestration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence the decision of delegates on Saturday, when the 2020 challenger of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be elected.
He admitted that he was aware a long time ago that such a scheme was being plotted by the NPP.
He has, therefore, called on NDC delegates to ignore the reports as he has not even been served with any writ.
