The Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) has ruled that the red notice issued for the arrest of former Ghana Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Kuntunkunuku Ofori-Atta was in error.
At the Commission’s 135th session held on Wednesday, February 4, the red notice alert issued against Mr Ofori-Atta was said to be “a predominantly political character”.
As a result, INTERPOL on Friday, February 13 removed the notice from its system as it deemed the process non-compliant.
This was communicated to Mr Ofori-Atta through his lawyers.
“After a thorough examination of the elements before it,” Mr Ofori-Atta’s lawyers Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners quoted the CCF, “the commission found that the challenged data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana were not compliant to INTERPOL’s rules and decided that they should be deleted from the INTERPOL information system.”
