Oppong Nkrumah in spat with Franklin Cudjoe over Agyapa deal

Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has taken an exception to a tweet by the Founding President of IMANI-Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, over comments attributed to him on the controversial Agyapa deal.

Mr Cudjoe had tweeted on Tuesday, August 25 that the Minister had effectively indicated that views of civil society organisations (CSOs) do not matter, before or after, in any type of deal reached by government.

It was in reference to an interview on TV3’s News 360, where the Ofoase/Ayirebi Member of Parliament insisted the agreement to have Agyapa Royalties Limited to raise between $500 million and $750 million for government use ahead of future royalties was not shrouded in secrecy as alleged by the CSOs.

“The full documentation has been made available to Parliament. Nobody hid this transaction. We took everything to Parliament and we had a full blown debate.”

Mr Oppong Nkrumah decided to reply to the tweet by Mr Cudjoe.

“You know it is not true. I have never said that.”

He indicated government’s readiness to engage and provide answers on any deal.

Hi Bro. You know this is not true. I have never said this. Govt is happy to always engage and provide answers as we have done since yesterday. We will continue to do so. What we have said is that it is unhealthy to start off with threats at each other. https://t.co/Io4zFp2Tz9
