President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, September 25 held discussions with the outgoing Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
This was part of President Mahama’s major engagements on the sidelines of the ongoing 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Guterres, who has been in office since 2017, congratulated President Mahama for his bold initiatives.
He recalled the adoption of the draft UN Resolution on Reparations and Reparatory Justice with optimism about the future prospects and the response.
The UN Secretary General also thanked President Mahama for his leadership and commitment to Ghana and Africa and the Accra Reset Agenda as well as calls for reforms in the exisiting international financial architecture.
The meeting further discussed ways of deepening regional dynamics and developments in West Africa and the Sahel, with particular attention to peace and security challenges in the region.
President Mahama congratulated the outgoing Secretary General for his leadership in the most trying times for international diplomacy with dwindling world aid.
He wished António Guterres well ahead of the end of his tenure next year.
