Over 5,000 Senior High School (SHS) students from schools in the Greater Accra Region have benefited from Lexta Ghana Limited’s ‘Teen Care Campaign.’

The nationwide campaign from the stables of the producers and suppliers of Yazz products and Hooch Foods was launched in February 2017 with the aim of visiting SHS’ across the country to educate students on how to properly manage their hygiene needs through the cultivation of personal and general hygiene habits in their adolescent years.

The Greater Accra edition visited schools including, St Mary’s SHS, City Business Secondary School (CIBUSCO),Armed Forces Secondary Technical School, Presbyterian Boys’ SHS (PRESEC, Legon),Wesley Grammar School, among others. The students benefited from education on cervical cancer, feminine hygiene and oral care. There was also clean-up exercises in some of the schools.

Not only did the beneficiary schools get quality health education from seasoned health professionals, as well as product donations worth thousands of Ghana Cedis, they also had the opportunity to experience the company’s Yazz and Hooch brands.

School authorities from the beneficiary schools commended Lexta Ghana Limited for the initiative and called for more future collaborations.

The Assistant Headmaster of Armed Forces Secondary Technical School, Mr. Adama said: “We are glad we openedour doors for this campaign to take place here because both staff and students have been exposed to new knowledge on cervical cancer and menstrual hygiene. With these adolescents in our care during their stay in school, we need all the help we can get to mould them to become responsible in every aspect of their lives and so thank you to Lexta and the Medical Women Association of Ghana for this initiative.”

Commenting on his contribution towards the campaign,a renowned Dentist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Philip Bayitse said: “The number of students who had never been to a dentist was not encouraging. Some had cavities but they were either scared to go and see a dentist or they did not know if anything could be done about it.That worries me because the implications can be very troubling.”

He continued saying, “I am happy to be contributing to the shaping of the minds and possibly the career path of these students.”

On his part, the Head of Sales and Marketing at Lexta Ghana Limited, Mr. Seth Ntiamoah-Asare promised that more schools will be roped in to spread the impact of the campaign far and wide.

“Lexta exists to make a difference by caring for the everyday needs of its consumers. As you all know, we are into the production and distribution of personal care, home care and food products and most of these products make it onto the list of items used by SHS students during their stay in school.

“As a socially conscious company, this is our way of giving back by educating them on how and why they should adopt a personal healthcare lifestyle to protect them from diseases and infections,” he said.

The Lexta ‘Teen Care Campaign’; the company’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is being organized in partnership with the Medical Women Association of Ghana (MWAG), led by the President Dr. Naa Sodzi-Tettey and Dr Sandra Crabbe who are championing cervical cancer education and screening across the country.

The Lexta Teen Care Campaign’s next stop is the Central Region which is due to begin in the second quarter of the year.
