The newly formed Congress Fundraising Committee of the People’s National Convention (PNC) is set to be dissolved.
Following the proposition of a seven-member team to raise funds for PNC’s upcoming Congress, there has been mixed reactions by proposed members to be on the committee.
The names of the members were tabled on Saturday, July 13 at a National Executive Committee meeting.
But the decision to dissolve the Committee, according to a statement signed by the Party’s National Treasurer, Akane Adams, stems from the fact that “some persons selected to be part of the committee have occasionally in writing and orally expressed their decision not to be part of the said committee for varied reasons”.
It continues: “However, as the immediate reasons for this is yet to be known, some of the members have expressed their challenge and concerns such as lack of consultation and due diligence on the composition of their names for the said committee inter alia”.
The statement further explained that the party does not have a Congress Fundraising Committee currently due to failure of selected members to accept the invitation.
“I can confirm to you that we don’t have a Congress Fundraising Committee in place as at now, and we can’t pretend to have one currently doing any work or yet to commence their work due to almost all of the proposed names opting out for varied reasons.”
PNC has, however, assured leadership will be looking into the issue critically in the coming days.
