Former President John Rawlings has urged the congress of the National Democratic Congress to reject persons who genuine lack commitment and character yet trying to lead the party.
He underscored the need for the leadership of the party to “protect the integrity of this process and discharge a true sense of leadership” by rejecting such persons.
In a statement to wish the party well in the election of National Women and Youth Organisers, Mr. Rawlings advised the delegates to resist any attempt by any of the candidates to use money influence them.
Such influences, he observed, have destructive tendencies.
“Let me reiterate the destructive effect of monetization in our body politic and urge all delegates to resist any attempt to use money to override our true sense of judgement in selecting the right leadership we need for the party,” he advised.
Mr. Rawlings urged the delegates persons who understand and appreciate the core principles of good leadership which he mentioned as integrity, patriotism, truth, loyalty, team spirit, accountability and respect.
“Let us demonstrate through the outcome of this Congress elections, that we have moved a step further in reorganizing the party,” he said.
He said the party was formed on through the selfless sacrifices and integrity of gallant young men and women of this country, noting women and youth were the backbone of this history.
The former president said they still remain pivotal in shaping the future and destiny of our country.
