A citizen has challenged government as regards the recent renaming of the Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.
According to the plaintiff, Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers, the renaming by the government through the Ministry of Transport should have been done after an amendment to General Kotoka Trust Decree, 1969 (NLCD 339).
He insists that within the meaning of Article 11 of the 1992 Constitution, the General Kotoka Trust Decree, 1969 (NLCD 339) remains valid and binding unless amended or repealed in accordance with law.
However, this was not done.
Mr Brako-Powers is, therefore, praying the Supreme Court to inter alia annul the reversion of the airport’s name and placing an interim injunction on government from enforcing the purported renaming as the case remains in court.
Meanwhile, the signage of the airport was changed on Friday, March 20 to reflect the change of name.
