The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North and a Deputy Minister of Education, Barbara Asher Ayisi, has called on the parents in the Central Region to invest in the education of their children.

The Deputy of Education in charge of Basic Education urged pupils in basic schools to stop watching telenovelas.

Speaking to Onua FM’s Central Region correspondent Kwame Kakarba after embarking on ‘My First Day AT School’ tour, Mrs Ayisi said the telenovelas have negative effects on their education and therefore cautioned them not to watch.

The Deputy Minister also distributed 5,000 exercise books to some selected schools in her constituency.

She appealed to teachers and head teachers in the basic schools to channel any form of challenge they may face to the district education office for quick response and not to wait until things degenerate.

Mrs. Asher-Ayisi commended teachers in the country for the tremendous work they continue to do in improving the level of basic education in the country.

She expressed government’s commitment towards improving facilities at the basic education level, assuring that schools would soon be provided with basic materials for effective teaching and learning materials in the basic schools.

At the Saint Lawrence Catholic Basic School, the headmistress, Madam Eugenia Ampah, thanked the deputy minister for the surprise visit.

She stated that the school performed creditably in the last Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Cape Coast metropolis by scoring 98%.

Those who accompanied the deputy minister wer the Metropolitan Education Director, Steven Amoah, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ernest Arthur, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Secretary for Cape Coast North, Ebo Sebah, Mr George Ayisi, Mr Richmond Yaw Yeboah and some regional educational officials.

Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) Mr Ernest Arthur also donated exercise books, note books, biscuits and fruit drinks, among others, as gifts to the pupils.
