It was an exciting evening of beautiful jazz, Afropop and soul music when the Stanbic Street Jazz train made a stop at the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle in Accra on Wednesday night.
The event is the third of a series of street jazz activations ahead of the 2019 Stanbic Jazz Festival scheduled to take place from February 28 to March 2 at the Labadi Beach Hotel and Fantasy Dome in Accra.
The ‘Jazz in the heart of the city’ opened with emerging Ghanaian band FRA. Compared to the legendary Osibisa, FRA has been described as the future of live band music in Ghana and they lived up to the hype when they dished out great tunes on the night.
Their ability to create music across a wide field of genres: highlife, afrobeat, jazz, afrojazz, soul, gospel, RnB, rock, afro-pop, and pop charmed commuters along the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle.
Next to perform was the young and talented guitarist and singer, Nene Narh, who has courted attention lately as a versatile musician with incredible vocal abilities.
Performing for the second time on the Street Jazz stage, Nene Narh was a delight to watch and listen to.
Also on stage was the exciting and energetic GH Jazz Collective who proved to patrons that Ghana is a hub with of music talents who hold huge potentials in becoming global icons.
Crowning a wonderful night of jazz music under the stars was Afropop singer Ssue, backed by the Ananse Band. Ssue performed some of her hit songs like ‘Fire Will Burn You’, ‘Commotion’, ‘Three Little Birds’ and ‘Hypnotise’, to a rousing applauds by the crowd that had gathered at the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle.
The first two of the Stanbic Street Jazz were held at Opeibea and the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange respectively.
This year’s Stanbic Jazz Festival promises to be the best yet with performances from the legendary UB40, Salif Keita, Richard Bona and a host of local music icons led by Akablay.
The Stanbic Jazz Festival, is a musical journey that began in 2014.
It brings world class jazz acts to serenade jazz lovers in Ghana.
As part of Stanbic’s support for worthy causes, this year’s event is in aid of the fight against malaria and part of the ticket proceeds shall be used to support the Infanta Foundation.
