President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the expanded Tema Port after the completion of phases one and two, calling it one of Africa’s most ambitious maritime infrastructure projects.
The upgrade, driven by a public–private partnership between Meridian Port Services, APM Terminals and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, was financed entirely with private capital.

Mahama said the collaboration shows Ghana’s ability to tap private investment for national development while positioning the country as the gateway to West Africa’s maritime trade. With its upgraded capacity and advanced systems, the port is now the preferred first-call terminal for major Gulf of Guinea shipping lines.
