Your favourite network TV3 held Ghanaians spellbound between 9:00pm and 10:00pm on Thursday, June 7 with the screening of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ latest piece on corruption in football.

A slight variation from the one showed at the Accra International Conference Center, the documentary, franchised by international partners BBC, attracted millions of eye balls.

The documentary film is captioned ‘Betraying The Game’ and it is part of the Africa Eye series of BBC Africa.

It exposes corrupt match officials in football on the African continent.

Referees from Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Kenya are seen taking cash to influence the results of games.

Some of the officials GFA’s Referees Committee caught on tape

There are other match officials such as referee instructors and football administrators captured by the secret filming of Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team.

It is the continental version of the exposé of Ghana football screened with the title: ‘Number 12: When Misconduct & Greed Become the Norm’.

Anas' Number 12
“Number 12” was premiered on June 6 at the Accra International Conference Center

Already, that exposé has led to the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association and the concomitant resignation and global ban of Kwesi Nyantaky, hitherto the President of the GFA.

During the screening on television, TV3 captured almost half of the entire viewing public across the nation.

Statistics pegged average viewership at 49.81 per cent, translating into over 6 million viewers, with UTV in a distant second at 12.32 per cent.

Not even international channel Al Jazeera could get anywhere close to TV3.

Over 140 thousand others across the globe logged on via TV3 Ghana.
