The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an upward adjustment of water tariff.
The new prices, which affect residential, non-residential, public institutions, commercial as well as industrial among others, will take effect from June 1, 2023.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah on Thursday, May 18.
The PURC said the approval for the increment follows the conclusion of the quarterly tariff reviews for the second quarter of 2023 as part of its regulatory mandate.
The statement explained that “in taking this decision, the Commission took cognizance of the cost of electricity, increased volume/cost of chemicals for raw water treatment, the Ghana Cedi/US Dollar exchange rate and inflation.”
Meanwhile, the PURC said it “is grateful to all stakeholders for their participation and input into the tariff approval process.
“The Commission will continue to monitor the operations of the utility service providers to ensure value for money and quality service delivery.”
The announcement comes a day after the PURC announced an increment in electricity tariff by an average of 18.36% across board for all customer groups.
