A witness in the case involving the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, is under a one-month self-quarantine over fears of the novel coronavirus.
State prosecutors told the Accra High Court Wednesday morning that the second prosecution witness in the case had just returned into the country from an international trip and self-quarantining as precautionary measure.
“My Lord, we wanted to bring our next witness but we have been told that he travelled out of the country and has only returned. When I spoke to the man, he said he will self-quarantine for one month,” Chief State Attorney, Asiamah Sampong told the court.
Presiding Judge, Justice Samuel Asiedu, questioned why the witness was self-quarantined himself beyond the recommended 14 days.
Mr Sampong agreed with the judge, stating the 14 days was the most applicable.
Meanwhile, the NDC chairman, Tony Lithur, indicated his client has filed an application at the Supreme Court challenging a decision of the High Court.
At today’s sitting only one of the accused persons, Deputy Communication Director of the NDC, Kwaku Boahen was in court,.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo who was absent was said to be observing his 10 days excuse duty.
He has been charged with conspiracy to cause harm and assault on a public officer together with Mr Boahen.
