The 2019 Bono East contestant for Ghana’s Most Beautiful, PENA, has been appointed a regional ambassador to fight against discrimination and stigmatization of recovered Covid-19 patients.

She is also set to generally help in the fight against the spread of the novel pandemic in the Bono East Region.

This s part of by the Regional Coordinating Council’s efforts to mitigate the spread and impact of the disease in the region.

The main responsibilities of the ambassador will be to reemphasize on the Covid-19 protocols and discourage stigmatization and discrimination of recovered patients.

Responding to the assignment of this new responsibility, Dede Akosua Jemima, with the stage name PENA in the 2019 GMB pageant, said the task of fighting against stigmatization and discrimination of recovered Covid-19 patients is a mission possible.

The mission can only be possible to its fullest with the necessary support and cooperation, she said.

She expressed optimism for a future free of coronavirus.

Speaking at a short ceremony, the Bono East Regional Minister, Kofi Amoakohene, who is also a Member of Parliament for Atebubu Amantin Constituency, said as science shows in the country, there seems to be more recovery of patients from the novel disease the with the new protocols from the World Health Organization (WHO), even though there are a number of new cases recorded on daily basis.

The Bono East Region has so far recorded 136 cases with a lot them recovered.

Kofi Amoakohene, however, bemoaned the level of stigmatization against people who have recovered from the virus in the Region.

This makes it imperative to reemphasize on the Covid-19 protocols and harness on strategies to reduce stigmatization and discrimination against recovered patients, he said.

The Atebubu Amantin MP further said coronavirus is an enemy to all citizens in the Bono East Region and the country at large, therefore fighting it must be a shared responsibility.

The government is playing an effective role in combating Covid-19 but the expected responsibility of the private sector cannot be written off.

He therefore stressed on the reinforcement of the precautionary measures at workplaces in the Region.

He also reemphasized on the constant engagement of stakeholders, which will involve the regional ambassador, and appealed to all private and public sector stakeholders to accord her the necessary help.
