A dusk to dawn curfew has been imposed on the Yendi township, following the selection of the Chief of Savelugu, Yoo Naa Abubakar, as the next king of Dagbon to succeed the late Yaa-Naa Andani Yakubu II.
The selection of the new Dagbon overlord is in consonance with the roadmap of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s Committee of Eminent Chiefs which was expected to bring lasting peace to the area.

But the selection of the late Yaa-Naa’s successor was immediately followed by the imposition of a curfew on the area by the Minister for Interior on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council.
The curfew, as announced in a statement dated Friday, January 18, is to forestall any violence as well as ensure the maintenance of law and order in Yendi and its environs.
“The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument imposed a 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. curfew on Yendi Township and its environs, effective, Friday, 18. January, 2018”, a statement signed by the minister.
The statement also warns against people carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, while urging the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them.
