As part of activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, TV3 honoured some female anchors of the station for their contributions to improve society.

Three of the station’s anchors, Wendy Laryea, Natalie Fort and Miriam Osei-Agyeman, who all have initiatives towards improving society, were on TV3 New Day to throw more light on their respective initiatives as the world celebrates women and their contributions to society.

About ‘Inspire to Rise

Wendy Laryea, through her “Inspire to Rise” non-governmental organization inspires the youth in Basic and Senior High Schools through mentorship and skills development programmes.

The project was founded primarily to aid the youth in Ghana and other parts of Africa into realizing their identity, potential and place in society.

The organization executes community projects that seek to educate, mentor and impact the lives of youth. We help build their physical and mental skills, as we believe that an empowered generation makes the world a better place.

Over the years, school pupils have been reached directly through various activities: the ‘Meet the Professionals’ initiative connected more than 20 professionals in diverse fields with more than 300 pupils in basic schools in deprived communities.

This aims at inspiring the pupils to believe in themselves and to aspire to higher grounds despite their current realities.

In partnership with the Ghana Education Service and the Lower Manya Krobo District Assembly, Inspire to Rise organized the 2018 Menstrual Hygiene Day event in the Eastern Region of Ghana on May 28.

The event focused on empowering women and girls through menstrual hygiene management. It involved about 600 participants including students, traditional leaders, parents, teachers, health workers, local government authority and the media.

Menstrual hygiene campaigns were carried out in 5 basic schools especially in communities, which benefited more than 500 school pupils.

In partnership with the Scoliosis Foundation Ghana and Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine, it sensitized and screened 221 pupils at the Kanda Cluster of Schools to mark the 2017 International Scoliosis Awareness Day.

The Fort Foundation

Natalie Fort’s ‘The Fort Foundation’ is a Healthcare centered foundation focused on contributing to improving the lives of Ghanaians by solving the healthcare problems facing the country.

The Foundation offers support in two key areas: through the renovation of healthcare centers particularly children’s wards into child friendly health centers through painting, artwork and refurbishment.

It also seeks to provide financial aid to less fortunate patients with healthcare needs through the Fort Fund, which seeks to serve as a well-resourced emergency fund to support needy patients at selected hospitals.

Under the foundation is the ‘Art for LuQuLuQu project’, an initiative in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for which Natalie serves as a High Level Influencer alongside some leading personalities in various fields across Africa.

The initiative seeks to encourage young African refugees to use their interest and gifts in Art to create a livelihood for themselves and their families.

Through the Fort Foundation, art materials were purchased and given to young refugees at the Ampian Refugee Camp in the Western region in October 2018.

After a period of 5 months, over 200 pieces were completed, and framed by the Fort Foundation to be sold with proceeds given to the LuQuLuQu Project of the UNHCR.

The LuQuLuQu Project is one developed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees with the aim of encouraging Africans to support African refugees.

ReadBook Lib Ghana

Miriam Osei-Agyeman also runs a book club which encourages reading among young people across the country.

ReadBook Lib Ghana is a rural education initiative aimed at providing learning aids to support all inclusive learning.

Through the club, reading is merged with play and sports to rekindle the love for reading among children.
