Media General has been presented with a citation in honour of its partnership with Methodist Church-Ghana in the campaign against tramadol abuse.
Presenting the citation, the Satellite Youth Fellowship of the Church in the North Accra diocese said it was “grateful to TV3 Network for being a media partner at its Gorbefest 2018”.
‘We could not have done it without you,” part of the citation read.
The 2018 Gorbefest celebration was under the theme: ‘Rescue the Perishing: A Task to Fight Tramadol Abuse’.
GorbeFest is an annual food festival for the youth of the Methodist Church nationwide to promote evangelism and tackle social issues.
Speaking on the specific impact of TV3’s media coverage, Yaw Obeng Boamah of the Finance Committee acknowledged the far-reaching publicity they enjoyed with Media General’s coverage.
“TV3 did a lot in terms of their advertisement and it was like they took the whole thing; they aired it on the TV3 station. Through that, people got to understand the meaning of Gorbefest.
“We started it in a small way but through TV3 it has gone abroad. Through TV3, people call to congratulate us as a church. We are a small church, but through TV3, we are everywhere,” he explained.
Gorbefest Planning Committee chairman Fred Klutse added that the campaign influenced many young people to resist the temptation of the drug, tramadol.
“There was one guy at Circle who was abusing tramadol, but we were able to bring him on board and through that, counselors talked to him and he has been able to convert. So that is one of the impact the programme made that year,” he recounted.
“That year we talked about tramadol abuse and through the programme many of them stopped that canker: the abuse of tramadol. That is one of the impact the programme has made in the lives of people, especially the youth.”
Corporate Affairs Executive at Media General Adriana Akosua Adjei received the plaque on behalf of Media General, expressing appreciation for the significant recognition for their social duty.
