Dreams FC president Kurt Okraku is convinced he is the right man to lead Ghana football out of what he says is the oblivion it has sunk into since the airing of the Number 12 documentary that brought an end to Kwesi Nyantakyi’s time as GFA president.
Mr. Okraku was one of the members of the Executive Committee at the time, but at the launch of his manifesto in Accra, he made no mention of his former boss.
Instead, he laid out in eloquent terms what was wrong with Ghana football and how he is the man to fix it by focusing on four key areas.
“My vision for the revival of football in Ghana is to ignite passion and create wealth for all of us.” he said.
“This vision is anchored on four thematic areas. We are talking about rebuilding trust for all and restoring the image and reputation of the Ghana Football Association.
“Uniting the football family behind the shared values of transparency, accountability, and the prudent management and auditing of finances. Full utilization of best practices in good corporate governance and most importantly the promotion of gender equity.”
The manifesto launch was Mr. Okraku’s way of stating his credentials and many of his strengths.
He proposed three funds including a medical fund to take care of injured players and said monies gained from world cups would be spread around for the good of the game.
The Dreams FC owner wants to make schools football central to juvenile football development.
While addressing journalists, some Dreams FC players and other club officials, he also reminded everyone why the elections regardless of who wins would be significant for the progression of Ghana football.
“Our industry needs Kurt. Our industry needs George [Afriyie]. Our industry needs [Osei] Palmer. Our industry needs Nana Amponsah, Amanda Clinton and Fred Pappoe,” he continued.
“Why must we be fighting among ourselves? Beyond 25th October there would be life. I need everybody to be on board and that’s why we have to play this game fairly, and clean.”
Mr. Okraku’s manifesto has set the stage for what is bound to be an intriguing one month. It would also enrich a contest that would be decided by less than 150 but with huge ramifications for an entire country’s heartbeat; football.
