Gov’t won’t respond to Amidu again no matter what – Presidency

Director of Communications at the Presidency Mr Eugene Arhin has said the government will not make any further comment as a reply to whatever claim Mr Martin Amidu will make again after the statement put out by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante.

The government had in a statement dismissed the accusations levelled against the president by Mr Amidu who resigned from his post as Special Prosecutor.

He resigned on Monday November 16 after citing a number of reasons for his resignation, including interference from the presidency and non-payment of emoluments due him.

He said in his letter to the president that “It is essential for me to state for the purpose of the records, and contrary to public perceptions, that my appointment letter was received on 5th February 2020 (almost two (2)-years after my appointment).

But President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo vehemently denied interfering with the work of the Mr Amidu.

“Your accusation of interference with your functions simply on account of the meeting the president held with you is perplexing.

“In exercise of what you considered to be your powers under Act 959, you had voluntarily proceeded to produce the Agyapa Report.

“The president had no hand in your work. Without prompting from any quarter within the Executive you delivered a letter purporting to be a copy of you report to the president,” the president said in a statement written on his behalf by the Secretary, Mr Asante Bediatuo.

There are claims that Mr Amidu will definitely reply to the response by the President.

However, Mr Eugene Arhin said in a Facebook post that “The statement put out by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, which was addressed to the former Special Prosecutor, Mr Martin Amidu, will be the ONLY statement from the Presidency on this matter.

“The President is focused on delivering on his mandate, and securing #4MoreToDoMore on 7th December.”
