Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has questioned the incorruptibility of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a response to his office over his recent resignation.
Mr Amidu asked the president to explain to Ghanaians the reasons for his refusal to interdict the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive after he allegedly engaged in corruption.
“Anti-corruption Moses, Kindly tell Ghanaians your reason for refusing to interdict or order the Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku Municipal Assembly to vacate her office, even on voluntary or compulsory leave like you unconstitutionally did to Mr Daniel Domelevo, the constitutionally appointed Auditor General of Ghana,” Amidu said in his response on Friday, November 27.
After Mr Amidu’s resignation on Monday, November 16, the Office of the President replied to vehemently deny the allegations of interference.
“Your accusation of interference with your functions simply on account of the meeting the president held with you is perplexing.
“In exercise of what you considered to be your powers under Act 959, you had voluntarily proceeded to produce the Agyapa Report.
“The president had no hand in your work. Without prompting from any quarter within the Executive., you delivered a letter purporting to be a copy of you report to the president.”
But Mr Amidu seems not to be enthused and cited an instance the president interfered with his work.
“After my several pleas with you, and in spite of the fact that the first prosecution witness in the case gave evidence-in-chief was cross-examined and discharged on 12th November 2020 in the case of the Republic v Hajia Hawa Nicchema & 7 others.”
