Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the ace investigative journalist, has been duly acknowledged for his sacrifices for Ghana by Oliver Barker Vormawor and the thousands of Ghanaians protesting against the Ghanaian government, in a speech delivered in front of the Jubilee House, the seat of the Government of Ghana.

Tribute To The Sacrifices of Anas Aremeyaw Anas

Oliver Barker Vormawor, one of the conveners of the protest dubbed #OccupyJulorBiHouse, which has stems out of the #FixTheCountry demonstrations, in a speech to the protesters, took time out to acknowledge the sacrifices of Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the ace investigative journalist.

The sacrifices of others which included the late Ahmed Suale, the fallen member of Tiger Eye PI, Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ investigative team, was also acknowledged in the speech.

“We believe in a new Ghana.  A Ghana built on the pillars of empathy, social justice and economic freedom in our lifetime. That new Ghana is possible. Now, I want to take some time out to acknowledge those who have come before us. As we gather here today, we are reminded of the sacrifices of Kwame Nkrumah, the sacrifices of Ahmed Suale, the sacrifices of Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the sacrifices of Macho Kaaka, the sacrifices of so many people who continue to bleed and sweat for a new Ghana. Nkrumah believed in the power of the people to shape their destiny, just as you and I do today. I share with you in that belief. Now, the energy and the enthusiasm of the people who have occupied Julorbi (Jubilee) House, cannot be underestimated” said Oliver Baker-Vormawor in his speech.

Oliver further acknowledged the sacrifices of Anas on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account and his the search for justice for his brother, colleague and employee, the late Ahmed Hussein Suale, who was murdered in 2019.

“We GhFixthecountry stand with you Anas Aremeyaw Anas in your match for justice for afallen comrade. Even when your fellow journalists remain mute”, Oliver wrote on his verified X account which bears the account name Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor.

Also some of the demonstrators were seen with placards which one of them read “Justice 4 Ahmed Suale”, to confirm the tweet on Oliver’s X account.

The Protest

Democracy Hub, an Accra-based civil society group is the convener for the protest dubbed #OccupyJulorBiHouse (which translates occupy the House of “the child/sonof a thief” in Ga Language of Ghana and it is also a corrupted word for “Jubilee House” that is the seat of the Government of Ghana) that lasted for three days. It began on September 21, 2023 which os a national holiday in remembrance for Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the founder of modern day Ghana) to September 24, 2023.

It was to call on the President and the members of the Economic Management Team of the country to fix the country in relation to the mismanagement of the economy, and the corruption and theft involving some government officials but have been left to go free.

The organisers also had as the aim to enter Jubilee House with the protest but was prevented by the presence of a heavy police personnel.

The police on the eve of the protest, went in for a court injunction to prevent the protest from happening.

The protesters, however, went ahead with the demonstration as the organisers said that they have not been served any such court documents and as such had the right to stage the demonstration. This development led to police arresting scores of the demonstrators.

However, the police insisted it had served the lawyers of the organisers and urged members of the public to avoid participating in an “unlawful” demonstration.
