Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa says the police are working hard to ensure the safe release of an Elder of The Church of Pentecost who was kidnapped during a robbery attack on the church.
The attack which lasted about 3 minutes happened on Sunday, October 29, 2023 whilst church service was ongoing at a Johannesburg branch of the church, which traces it origin to Ghana.
“The Mission is presently working with the Church in cooperation with the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) to ensure the speedy and safe release and return of the victim to his family.
“Kindly note that the South African Police is fully focused on the matter and is working hard to ensure the safe return of our compatriot,” the High Commission said in a statement on Monday.
The Elder, identified as Emmanuel Cudjoe, is the National Deacon of the pentecostal church in Sounth Africa.
Other members of the church were robbed at gunpoint, losing their mobile phones, tablets, handbags and other valuables to the armed robbers.
Meanwhile, the Mission has advised all members of the Ghanaian community to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
“Mission will update the Community of any further development related to the case,” the statement said.
Moreover, The Church of Pentecost is encouraging “all Nations, regions, areas to raise prayers for the church in South Africa and all who have been affected by the attack”.
